FOR THE FELLAS

Congratulations to Chicago’s Urban Prep Academy they are celebrating yet another year of extraordinary success. For the fifth year in a row, all 240 seniors at the all-African-American-male high school have earned acceptance letters into a four-year college or university!!!!!

On Tuesday, the Class of 2014 celebrated their  momentous occasion during a traditional ceremony where they exchanged their red uniform ties for a red-and-gold striped tie - a tradition done in observance of their achievement.

“The tie represents to me moving on from a boy to becoming a young man and actually doing something with my life,” graduating senior Dumar Harris told NBC Chicago. The mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel attended the ceremony Tuesday to give the students a few encouraging words. Dwayne Wade has also donated $10,000 through his foundation, Wade’s World.

This painting by Canadian artist, Heidi Taillefer, offers the viewer a sumptuous depiction of the pregnant body’s internal world.  Rich images of fruit and flowers fill the woman’s form, while her baby is nourished within a floating sac of clear water.  Her full breasts are glorious machines that produce and pump milk through an intricate system of faucets and tubing.  Like a cross between a Duch still life painting and a Surrealist masterwork, Taillefer’s composition is lavish, detailed and luxuriant, reminding the viewer of the fertile bounty and reproductive powers intrinsic to the female body.
Taillefer describes the various meanings of this complex painting on her own website:
The painting “Venus Envy” is a work emphasizing the beauty and potency of women and motherhood.  The name “Venus Envy” is a play on words of the Freudian “Penis Envy”, and implies the enviable female advantage of being the carrier of new life.  With the predominance of taboos and limitations against women in so many cultures throughout the world, the piece exposes with pride and irreverence, female charaacteristics, whether beautiful or unsettling.  It is an attempt to absolve women of their generally complex nature, and free them from harsh social standards foisted upon their physical, social, and spiritual selves.  It also explores the sensuality of pregnancy, and the mystical and intimidating power with which it was once regarded.
Heidi Taillefer has produced prolifically over the past two decades.  While symbolism, surrealism, the sublime and the sacred are integral to her work, she also explores the absurd and maintains a strong sense of humor in her creative process.

Teen Screams in Agony as Cop Snaps his Arm (VIDEO)
The high-schooler seems to have been participating in a fight before he was accosted, but the video is very clear that the officer didn’t break his arm accidentally due to attempts to subdue him. The cop broke the young man’s arm intentionally.
The cop twisted the kid’s arm as far as he could and as far back as it would naturally go, paused to reposition his hands and place his forearm as a brace against the teen’s arm, and then used his body weight to snap the arm.

Footage of the incident shows squabbles breaking out before a female officer grabs a male student and hauls him to the ground, aided by Officer Steve Rivers.
As the female officer presses the student’s face to the ground, Rivers grabs his left arm and violently bends it backwards in what appears to be a deliberate attempt to snap the bone.
A sickening crunch is audible as the student screams out in agony.
Although the boy is clearly in severe trauma, Rivers continues to push his head to the floor.

The Clueless White Person Bus x

Although I like the articles, the picture rubbed me the wrong way. Honestly I don’t think your race matters when it comes down to identifying racism. Only in the that while some white people are racist but only think its normal (because we are raised that way) I’ve seen a lot of POC who are racist to whites & other POC (blacks racist to Mexicans vice versa etc) so I don’t think it should be narrowed to just one race.

…Did you READ the articles you “like” so much? Derailing a conversation on oppression caused by WHITES + saying PoC can be racist to whites = show a very limited understanding of race, racism, systemic oppression, and the WORLD. Your input was SORELY unnecessary and, frankly, idiotic from the first sentence to the last.

Brandon Todd is 5’5’’ (165 cm) and he can dunk. He has never believed his height to be a limitation but an opportunity to change how people view small athletes. Brandon transformed his body over the course of a few years, gaining over 80 lbs (36 kg) of muscle, increasing his vertical to over 45 inches (114 cm). Todd hopes to teach others that through hard work and perseverance physical limitations can be overcome.
